27.09.2011 Bahrain
HRH Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Deputy King of Bahrain, said the Bahraini-US military co-operation is among the fruitful results of solid historical ties bonding the two allies and a reflection of HRM King Hamad's keen interest to strengthen them.
He made his remarks when visiting the US aircraft carrier USS John C Stennis (CVN 74) this past week stressing that the anchoring of such a giant warship at Khalifa Bin Salman Sea Port testifies to its progress and development.
"The visit aims to consolidate the spirit of friendship characterizing the two countries' relations which have always been positive, stable and beneficial for both," he said, citing the deep-rooted military ties bonding Bahrain and the US and the military agreements allowing the US to set up the first naval base in the region.
He also reiterated the Kingdom's strong resolve to enhance its ties with the US at military and other levels.
Upon arrival, the Deputy King was welcomed by US 5th Fleet Commander Mark Fox, Commander of the USS John C Stennis Rear Admiral Craig Faller and acting US Ambassador Stephanie Williams.
He toured the vessel and was briefed on its sections and duties, as well as the co-operation between the Royal Bahrain Naval Force (RBNF) and the US Navy. The Deputy King later lauded the advanced level of US Naval Forces.
The Commanders of the US 5th Fleet and the USS John C Stennis commended the Deputy King's keenness to enhance bilateral relations.
Head of Crown Prince's Court Sheikh Khalifa bin Daij Al Khalifa and RBNF Commander Rear Admiral Abdulla Said Al Mansoori accompanied the Deputy King.
