Algeria Donates Two MI-24V and Two MI-171 Helicopters to Niger Army

In accordance with the instructions of the President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defence, aiming to strengthening strategic bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Niger in various fields, particularly the military field, General Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence, Chief of Staff of People’s National Army, ordered the handover to the Nigerien Army of a donation comprising a consignment of equipment (4 helicopters) and military supplies.

To this end, two MI-24V helicopters and two MI-171 helicopters took off Sunday, 9th August 2026, from In Gezzam Secondary Deployment Base in the 6th Military Region, bound for Niamey Airport in Niger.

In addition, a quantity of ammunition for these helicopters, spare parts, as well as support, maintenance, and logistical equipment, were transported aboard a military aircraft belonging to our Air Force to the same destination, the Algerian Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

The consignment was received at Niamey Airport in Niger by Brigadier General Salifou Maïnassara, Chief of Staff of the Nigerien Air Force, who expressed his satisfaction with this commendable initiative. He also conveyed the thanks of the highest Nigerien authorities to the Algerian people and state, headed by Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defence.

This operation, which is part of the strengthening of the fraternal and historical relations between the two brotherly countries, confirms Algeria's commitment to continuing its support for the countries of the region, particularly in the areas of defence and security, the exchange of expertise, and multifaceted support.
