As part of the Egyptian Armed Forces’ commitment to strengthening military cooperation with various international institutions, the Sahel and Sahara Center for Counterterrorism welcomed a high-level delegation from NATO, headed by Vice Admiral Thorsten Marx, Assistant Chief of Staff for Partnerships at NATO’s Joint Force Command in Naples.

The visit included discussions on a number of issues of mutual interest, as well as a presentation highlighting Egypt’s efforts in establishing and equipping the Sahel and Sahara Center for Counterterrorism in Cairo, the Egyptian Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

The presentation also underscored the Center’s ongoing efforts since its inception to support member states in the field of counterterrorism, including the organization of numerous training courses, seminars, and conferences aimed at enhancing the capabilities of member nations in support of security and stability.

During the visit, Major General Mohamed Abdel Basset, Director of the Sahel and Sahara Center for Counterterrorism, emphasized the Armed Forces’ keenness to share and exchange expertise with the armed forces of brotherly and friendly nations across various domains, particularly in counterterrorism - a field in which Egypt stands as a leading nation with extensive experience and notable successes.

For his part, NATO’s Assistant Chief of Staff for Partnerships at the Joint Force Command in Naples praised Egypt’s efforts to promote peace and security in Africa, expressing his aspiration to broaden the horizons of military cooperation between the two sides in a manner that contributes to establishing the foundations of security and stability in the Middle East region.
