The Commander of the Iraqi Naval Force, Rear Admiral Hisham Taher Hammadi, received Mr. Nazim Yermişoğlu, the Managing Director of the Turkish company Galata Marine, and his accompanying delegation.
At the beginning of the meeting, the company Director extended his warmest congratulations to the Commander on assuming his post, wishing him success in fulfilling his national duties to protect territorial waters and secure the country’s maritime borders.
For his part, the Commander expressed his gratitude for this initiative, emphasizing the leadership's commitment to strengthening technical and technological partnerships with specialized international companies to develop naval defense capabilities, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
The meeting addressed the details and aspects of the contract for the construction of patrol boats for the Naval Force. Both parties focused on reviewing the implementation timelines, stages of completion, and ensuring compliance with all agreed-upon technical and engineering specifications, thereby enhancing the combat readiness and field efficiency of Naval Force personnel in carrying out their security missions.

In another development and in accordance with the directives of the Commander of the Iraqi Naval Force, Rear Admiral Hisham Taher Hammadi, to enhance the technical efficiency and combat readiness of naval vessels, the naval and engineering crews at Umm Qasr Naval Base have commenced the implementation of a maintenance plan for ships and boats. This is part of a comprehensive periodic maintenance program designed to sustain combat readiness.
The work includes removing rust and corrosive layers from the hulls of the boats, around windows, and on metal surfaces; treating areas damaged by weather and salinity; identifying worn parts for cutting and replacement with new plates that meet maritime specifications; and rehabilitating storage areas and equipment mounted on the boat decks, removing deposits and rust to prepare them for final painting to protect them from future corrosion.
These efforts aim to ensure the integrity of the boats’ hulls, extend their operational lifespan, and maintain the highest levels of combat and technical readiness for the naval vessels to efficiently carry out their assigned maritime missions.
