As part of ongoing field monitoring of vital and economic facilities within the Iraqi Naval Force’s area of ​​responsibility, and in the interest of the safety of citizens and employees, the Commander of the Naval Force, Rear Admiral Hisham Taher Hammadi, accompanied by the Deputy Commander, conducted an urgent field visit to the fertilizer plant in the Khor Al-Zubair area of ​​Basra Governorate.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the repercussions of the ammonia gas leak and to follow up on the measures taken to control and mitigate its effects.

The visit took place in the presence of the Governor of Basra and the Head of the Governorate’s Security Committee.

The Commander reviewed the situation on the ground and the extent of the damage caused by the incident. He met with the plant's management and technical and specialized teams, receiving a detailed briefing on the nature of the leak and the measures taken to control it. He also inspected the approved emergency plan to ensure the safety of workers and protect surrounding areas.

During the visit, the Commander affirmed the readiness of the Naval Force’s units to provide immediate technical, logistical, and support assistance to the plant’s personnel and civil defense teams, contributing to containing the incident and minimizing its consequences, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of the Iraqi Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Jassim Mohammed Alwan, chaired the weekly expanded conference for officers of the Inspector General of the Armed Forces.

The conference discussed several key topics aimed at identifying the most prominent current challenges facing military operations and proposing practical solutions that contribute to developing the capabilities of our armed forces in all their branches and formations.

The conference emphasized adherence to professional standards to strengthen the three pillars of inspection: educational, procedural, and combat readiness. It also focused on developing the necessary plans to raise the combat and administrative level of all units and identifying the obstacles hindering unit development.

The Inspector General also stressed the need for the inspector to be an educator in various field and professional circumstances, far removed from personal favoritism, while ensuring that reports are completed in accordance with the regulations issued by the Inspectorate headquarters, reflecting the extent to which the units are able to carry out the tasks assigned to them in all circumstances.
