Iraq’s Chief of Staff Receives German Minister of State for Defense

On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, the Chief of Staff of the Iraqi Army, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, met in his office at the Ministry of Defense headquarters with the German Minister of State for Defense, Mr. Niels Helmer, and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, bilateral relations between Iraq and Germany were discussed, as well as a number of topics of common interest, particularly in the fields of chemical weapons and cybersecurity, in addition to enhancing the exchange of expertise and experiences.

Both sides emphasized the importance of continuing coordination and joint cooperation, which contributes to strengthening the military partnership, developing training areas, raising the level of capabilities and building potential, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

Moreover, the Chief of Staff of the Iraqi Army held a meeting on Thursday to discuss the allocation of new sites for the headquarters of the Ground Forces Command, the Army Aviation Command, and the Military Ceremonies.

The Commander of the Iraqi Ground Forces, the Head of the Legal Department, the Security Coordinator of the Office of the Prime Minister, the Director of Military Housing, the Director of Military Works, the Director of Military Survey, and a number of concerned gentlemen attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the technical, engineering and legal procedures related to the selection of new sites were discussed, and the plans and designs for them were developed in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Defense, in preparation for referring them to the implementing company, Al-Asim Company for Site Construction, to begin the preparation and implementation work in accordance with the technical specifications and the specified timeframes.

The Chief of Staff of the Army stressed the importance of expediting the completion of the necessary procedures and adopting designs and plans that meet the needs of the relevant leaderships, in order to ensure the provision of a suitable work environment and integrated infrastructure that contributes to raising the efficiency of performance and carrying out the duties and tasks assigned to them.
