On Monday, August 17, 2026, the Chief of Staff of the Iraqi Army, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, chaired the Readiness and Evaluation Authority’s conference on the Strategic Readiness Report for the first half of 2026.
The conference was attended by the Senior Secretary, the Deputy Chiefs of Staff, the Inspector General, the commanders of the various branches of the Armed Forces, the Heads of the relevant departments, and a number of other military leaders, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
The conference included a detailed briefing by the Head of the Readiness and Evaluation Authority, who reviewed the strategic readiness level of the armed forces, the findings of the evaluation committees' reports on the readiness of departments, commands, and units, the most significant obstacles identified, and the measures taken to address and overcome them. These measures aim to raise the level of training and operations and ensure the necessary requirements for achieving the highest levels of readiness.
In addition, the Chief of Staff stressed the need to follow up on the implementation of the recommendations of the evaluation committees, and to expedite the handling of obstacles according to priorities, stressing the need to raise the level of training and operational readiness, and to enhance coordination between the various commands and relevant departments, in order to ensure the maintenance of readiness and preparedness for various tasks and duties.
Lieutenant General Yarallah, also received on Monday His Excellency Alfredo Leoni, Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Iraq, and his accompanying delegation at his office in the Ministry of Defense headquarters.
The Secretary-General of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense, Lieutenant General Engineer Shwan Mazhar Ali, the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics, and the Director of Public Relations were also present.
At the outset of the meeting, the Iraqi Chief of Staff welcomed the guests, emphasizing the importance of this meeting in strengthening cooperation and coordination between the two countries, exploring ways to develop these ties, and working together to secure the Iraqi Armed Forces’ requirements for modern equipment and weapons, thereby enhancing their capabilities and raising their level of readiness.
For his part, His Excellency the Ambassador expressed his pleasure at the meeting, affirming his country’s keenness to strengthen cooperative relations with Iraq. He added that the Brazilian diplomatic mission would work to convey the requirements and needs of the Iraqi Army to the Brazilian government, with the aim of exploring possibilities for providing support and assistance, and enhancing aspects of joint cooperation between the two countries.
