The Iraqi Minister of Defense, Mr. Thabet Mohammed Saeed Al-Abbasi, met in his office with the Army Chief of Staff of the German Armed Forces, General Carsten Breuer, along with the German Ambassador to Iraq and the accompanying delegation.
The meeting discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries, particularly in the military and security fields, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense said in a statement.
Ways to enhance joint cooperation were also discussed, as Germany reaffirmed its continued support for Iraq, especially in the fields of economy, education, armament, and equipment, in a manner that contributes to supporting and developing the capabilities of the Iraqi Security Forces.
The German side further renewed its country’s supportive stance toward Iraq in its war against terrorism, stressing the importance of continued joint coordination, exchange of expertise, and sharing of intelligence information, in order to strengthen efforts aimed at eliminating terrorism and improving security and stability in the country.
For his part, the Minister of Defense expressed his appreciation for this support, affirming Iraq’s keenness to strengthen relations of cooperation and partnership with Germany in a way that serves the mutual interests of both countries.
Last week, the Chief of Staff of Iraq’s Army, General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, met in his office Friday with his German counterpart, General Carsten Breuer, and the accompanying delegation.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Army Chief of Staff welcomed the visiting delegation, praising the efforts of the Federal Republic of Germany in supporting joint cooperation and coordination between the two friendly countries, as well as its contribution in training and developing the capabilities of the Iraqi Armed Forces across all branches, enabling them to confront terrorist challenges especially since Germany is one of the countries of the international coalition operating in Iraq.
The two sides then discussed prospects for cooperation and coordination in armament and training, in addition to sharing expertise to enhance the skills and capabilities of the Iraqi Army.
For his part, the German Army Chief of Staff (photo) expressed his pleasure with the visit, affirming the depth of the strategic partnership and Germany’s continued support for Iraq, as well as sustained cooperation and coordination with the Iraqi military institution.
Earlier, Chairman of the Jordanian Joint Chiefs of Staff Major General Yousef Huneiti last Thursday received the German Chief of Defense, General Carsten Breuer, and his accompanying delegation at the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces.
The meeting addressed mechanisms to enhance military cooperation, expand the exchange of expertise, and advance joint training and qualification programs between the two armies, particularly in defense industries, in support of strengthening operational and technical capabilities.
Huneiti and the delegation were briefed on ongoing modernization and development programs within the Jordan Armed Forces, implemented in line with regional developments, Petra news agency reported.
He stressed the importance of the partnership between the Jordanian and German armies, noting the Jordan Armed Forces’ commitment to broadening cooperation and coordination across various fields to further enhance readiness.
For his part, Breuer expressed his hope for deeper cooperation and joint coordination, commending the humanitarian efforts of the Jordan Armed Forces and affirming Germany’s commitment to advancing military cooperation between the two countries.
