The annual naval exercise “Sea Lion 2026” kicked off at the Said bin Sultan Naval Base in the Wilayat of Al Musanaa in Oman Sunday.
The exercise, which will run until 29 October 2026, is being conducted by the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO).
The exercise began with a briefing outlining the training objectives, namely steps to enhance the combat proficiency of the participants and upgrade their levels of readiness and preparedness. These objectives are achieved through comprehensive training programmes and field drills that simulate different operational situations and scenarios.
The exercise is part of the Royal Navy of Oman’s annual training plans designed to maintain high levels of readiness across its fleet and personnel, in line with the national missions entrusted to the Naval Force, Oman News Agency (ONA) reported.
In another development, a delegation of experts from think tanks and research centers in the United States of America visited the Maritime Security Centre (MSC) Sunday.
Upon the delegation’s arrival, they were received by Commodore Abdullah Ali Al Hajri, Head of the Maritime Security Centre.
The visiting delegation listened to a briefing that reviewed the Centre's jurisdictions and national roles, as well as the duties assigned to it in monitoring maritime conditions and enhancing responses to incidents and emergencies, in coordination with the relevant authorities. This contributes to ensuring the security and safety of maritime navigation.
Furthermore, the delegation toured the facilities of the Maritime Security Centre and viewed the equipment, technologies, and systems it houses. These elements contribute to enhancing the Centre’s operational capabilities and raising its level of readiness and efficiency in carrying out the duties and jurisdictions entrusted to it.
