His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan received Italy’s Undersecretary of State for Defence Matteo Perego di Cremnago and Chief of the Defence Staff General Luciano Portolano on Wednesday.

The meeting covered ways to expand defence cooperation between Jordan and Italy, as well as recent regional developments.

Chairman of the Jordanian Joint Chiefs of Staff Major General Yousef Huneiti, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, and Italy’s Ambassador to Jordan Luciano Pezzotti attended the meeting.

Earlier, Major General Huneiti separately received on Tuesday the visiting Italian Chief of Defence General Luciano Portolano and his accompanying delegation at the Jordanian Armed Forces - Arab Army (JAF) headquarters.

Huneiti and the delegation, in the presence of senior JAF officers and the Italian Military Attaché, discussed areas of defense and military cooperation of mutual interest, in addition to the latest regional and international developments and the countries’ joint efforts to promote global security and stability.

He underscored the deep and longstanding ties between Jordan and Italy, noting the Armed Forces’ commitment to leveraging shared expertise and capabilities across various fields, Petra news agency reported.

For his part, General Portolano commended the pivotal and distinguished role of the Jordan Armed Forces in enhancing regional security and stability, praising the high professionalism of its personnel.

In another development, Speaker of the Lower House of Jordnian Parliament, Mazen Qadi, received Bulgarian Ambassador, Metin Kazak, on Tuesday to discuss issues of mutual interest, with a focus on parliamentary relations and regional security.

During the meeting, Qadi underscored the strength of Jordan-Bulgaria relations and the importance of expanding cooperation across all sectors, including creating opportunities for mutual investment, facilitated by the supportive business environment in both countries.

The Speaker reaffirmed Jordan’s commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, to regional security and stability. He emphasized the Kingdom’s support for a two-state solution as the pathway to ending years of tension and conflicts in the region.

Qadi and Kazak also reviewed the outcomes of His Majesty’s visit to Sofia earlier this year and highlighted the significance of Bulgaria hosting the Aqaba Meetings initiative in partnership with Jordan, aimed at combating terrorism comprehensively.

Kazak praised Jordan’s role under His Majesty’s leadership in addressing regional challenges, promoting security and stability, and advancing peaceful resolutions to crises.
