General Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Algerian Minister of National Defence, Chief of Staff of People’s National Army, received on Tuesday 17th February 2026, at the People’s National Army headquarters, Lieutenant General Carmine Masiello, Chief of Staff of the Italian Army, during his working visit to Algeria, leading a military delegation.
Both sides discussed opportunities for bilateral military cooperation, as well as ways to strengthen coordination on matters of common interest. The two sides also exchanged views on various current issues.
The meeting was attended by Major Generals and Generals from the Algerian Ministry of National Defence and the People’s National Army General Staff, along with members of the Italian delegation, the Algerian Ministry of National Defence said in a statement.
Lieutenant General Carmine Masiello expressed his gratitude for the hospitality extended to him and his delegation, and conveyed his satisfaction with the Algerian side’s commitment to further strengthening cooperation and consultations between the two countries on matters of common interest.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides exchanged symbolic gifts.
Furthermore, at the Land Forces Command headquarters, Major General Ahcène Messahel, Chief of Staff of the Land Forces, held a working meeting with the Chief of Staff of the Italian Army, in the presence of Land Forces Command Officers and members of the Italian delegation.
The two sides exchanged views on ways to strengthen bilateral military cooperation in various aspects related to Land Forces, before commending the excellent bilateral relations between the Armed Forces of both countries.
It is worth noting that Lieutenant General Carmine Masiello visited the Martyr’s Memorial earlier Tuesday, where he laid a wreath and observed a moment of silence in tribute to Algeria’s valiant martyrs. (Source & Photo © Algerian Ministry of National Defence)
