Within the framework of the monitoring of the second phase of the 2025/2026 combat readiness program implementation across all military regions, General Saïd Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Algerian Minister of National Defence, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, carried out last week a working and inspection visit to the 6th Military Region.

The visit began at the Regional Command Headquarters in Tamanrasset, where, following a welcoming ceremony led by Major General Mohammed Adjroud, Commander of the 6th Military Region, General Chanegriha proceeded to the inauguration of the new headquarters of the 6th Military Region Command, the Algerian Ministry of National Defence said in a statement.

During his meeting with the officers and personnel of the Region, General Chanegriha delivered an orientation speech, which was also broadcasted via videoconference to all the personnel of the 6th Military Region. He emphasized that the People’s National Army (PNA) is vigilantly pursuing its constitutional missions to rid the country of remaining terrorist groups and maintain security and peace throughout the nation.

“PNA continues to fulfil its constitutional missions with vigilance and rigor, aiming to rid our country of remaining terrorist groups and maintain security and peace throughout the nation. In this regard, the recent operations conducted by our military units demonstrate, through their quality, the will and determination of our valiant men to eliminate these remaining criminals from the blessed land of Algeria, whatever the sacrifices may be,” he said.

“In this context, our relentless fight against cross-border drug trafficking networks is yielding remarkable results, as illustrated by the significant quantities of these drugs seized by detachments of the People’s National Army (PNA), working closely with the security services. Our forces have been able, within this framework, to eliminate and arrest kingpins and smuggling networks that were attempting to harm our national economy,” he added.

On this occasion, General Chanegriha wished to commend the professional work of the Army Security services, which contributed to the re-release of a significant number of terrorists:

At the end of this meeting, he listened to the comments and concerns of the personnel of the 6th Military Region, who expressed their commitment to continuing their efforts to best accomplish their assigned missions, particularly in terms of border security and protecting the national territory against all scourges and potential threats.

On the second day of his visit to the 6th Military Region, General Chanegriha oversaw the execution of a live-fire tactical exercise, “Issar 2026” at the In Guezzam Operational Sector on Wednesday, 8th April, 2026.

At the outset, the General received a briefing from the Commander of the 6th Military Region and the Commander of the Operational Sector, outlining the general concept of the exercise and its execution phases.

This tactical exercise, conducted with live ammunition, aimed to test the combat readiness of the Operational Sector units, their ability to execute potential combat missions, their proficiency with combat equipment and modern weapon systems, to train commanders and staff, and to develop their knowledge of planning, preparation, organization, and execution, all while simulating real combat conditions.

At the Sector’s training ground, the General closely observed the various combat actions carried out by the participating land and air units. These actions, characterized throughout by a high level of professionalism and tactical and operational proficiency, reaffirmed the rigorous approach to both planning and execution. They also reflected the competence of the officers in organizing, conducting, and coordinating combat operations, as well as the personnel's expertise and mastery of the various weapon systems and equipment at their disposal.

At the conclusion of the exercise, General Chanegriha met with the personnel of the units that had conducted it to assess the overall performance of the participants. On site, he congratulated them on their efforts in preparing and executing this live-fire tactical exercise, which yielded highly satisfactory results, demonstrated by the accuracy of fire from the various weapons and the excellent coordination between the units and the supporting units involved. He further urged all personnel to capitalize on the positive results achieved in order to enhance the operational capabilities of the Battle Corps in this sensitive sector.
