Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani and his accompanying delegation visited the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in the United Kingdom, where they were received by Commander of the Academy Brigadier Nick Cowley.
During the visit, discussions were held on avenues for military cooperation between the two countries, as well as means of enhancing collaboration in the fields of academic qualification and training, alongside addressing a number of topics of mutual interest, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
Furthermore, His Excellency met with Chairman of the Defence Committee in the British House of Commons MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi at the British Parliament headquarters in London during his trip to the UK.
Both sides discussed bilateral relations and the strategic partnership between Qatar and the United Kingdom, particularly in the military and defence fields, as well as ways to enhance and develop them. Additionally, they addressed a number of regional and international issues of common interest, along with efforts aimed at supporting security and stability.
The meeting was attended by Ambassador of Qatar to the United Kingdom His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammad bin Saud Al Thani, members of the committee from both sides, and a number of senior officers and officials.
In another development, Under the patronage of Chief of Staff of the Qatar Armed Forces His Excellency Major-General (Pilot) Jassim bin Mohammed Al Manaei, the Fifth Arab Military Seminar on Sports Medicine organised by the Military Sports Union were held in Doha under the supervision of the Arab Military Sports Union, with the participation of delegations from 16 Arab countries.
The seminar was attended by a number of officials and sports and military leaders, alongside the heads and members of the participating delegations and representatives of the Arab Military Sports Union.
Delegations from Jordan, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Somalia, Oman, Palestine, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, and Mauritania, in addition to Qatar, the host country , participated in the event.
In his opening speech, Brigadier-General (Dr.) Yusuf Dasmal Al Kawari, President of the Arab Military Sports Union and President of the Military Sports Union, said: “The seminar represents an important occasion for the military sports unions in the Arab countries, and an effective step toward achieving the goals of the Arab Military Sports Union, enhancing the readiness of members of the armed forces, and strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and cooperation among Arab military sports unions, under the Union’s motto ‘Brotherhood through Sports.”
He explained that the organisation of the seminar aims to develop the physical fitness of military personnel, enhance cooperation between military medical academies and sports departments in Arab armed forces, as well as exchange medical and research expertise in the field of sports medicine.
