Jordan’s Interior Minister Mazen Faraya received in Amman Wednesday Acting German Minister of the Interior and Home Affairs Nancy Faeser and Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Karner.

The Ministers explored collaboration in security, combating organised crime and addressing refugee issues. They discussed enhancing future cooperation through the exchange of expertise among officials.

The meeting addressed developments in Syria, with an exchange of views on supporting the country in building state institutions and improving basic services and security. The aim is to establish stability in the region and facilitate the voluntary return of refugees to Syria.

The Ministers emphasised the importance of ongoing consultation, coordination and collaborative efforts in various security fields, which would bolster security and stability in the region while advancing the mutual interests of their countries, Petra news agency reported.

For his part, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi also met on Wednesday with the visiting German and Austrian Interior Ministers (photo).

The meeting discussed prospects of cementing relations between Jordan and Germany and Austria, within the framework of the strategic partnership with the European Union, in addition to joint coordination on developments in the region.

Safadi stressed the need for concerted efforts to immediately halt the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, commit to a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire, and open the crossings to deliver humanitarian aid to various parts of the Strip.

The meeting also tackled developments in Syria, emphasizing the need to support the Syrian people in rebuilding their country through a Syrian-Syrian political process based on principles that guarantee Syria's unity, security, stability, and sovereignty, eliminate terrorism, and preserve the rights of all Syrians.

Safadi stressed the need to continue supporting refugees, the organizations that care for them, and host countries, in parallel with intensive efforts to create an appropriate environment for their voluntary return homes.

The German and Austrian Ministers lauded Jordan's efforts, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, to achieve security, stability, and peace in the region. (Petra; Photo © Bernd von Jutrczenka/dpa)
