Secretary-General of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) Major General Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi received in Riyadh Colonel General Karim Valiyev, First Deputy Minister of Defense and Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijan Army, along with his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, he received a comprehensive presentation on the IMCTC’s mission and its four key areas of focus, including intellectual, media, combating terrorism financing, and military operations.

He was also briefed on the collaborative efforts of member states to combat terrorism through a unified, integrated approach, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

General Valiyev lauded the IMCTC’s significant work and programs that contribute to building the capacities of member states and enhancing joint cooperation. He commended the pivotal role played by Saudi Arabia in establishing and leading the coalition, as well as its pioneering efforts in promoting security and stability at both regional and international levels. He also praised the IMCTC’s initiatives to correct misconceptions and counter hate speech and incitement.

Major General Al-Moghedi reaffirmed the IMCTC’s commitment to expanding cooperation with member states and strengthening partnerships to support the coalition’s strategic objectives in combating terrorism in all its forms.

He expressed the IMCTC’s aspiration for the Republic of Azerbaijan to join its membership, so that its flag may be raised alongside those of the 43 member states. He noted that such a step would bring mutual benefits, enhance the exchange of international expertise, and unify and intensify efforts in the fight against terrorism and extremism.

The Secretary-General of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) also received, at the Coalition’s headquarters in Riyadh, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Najib bin Hilal Albusaidi.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the coalition and Oman in combating terrorism and extremism.

The Ambassador was briefed on IMCTC’s role and the initiatives and programs it implements across ideological, media, counter-terrorism financing, and military domains within a comprehensive approach based on collective action and the exchange of expertise among member states.

Major General Al-Moghedi praised Oman’s support and active participation as a member of the coalition, stressing that the visit boosts avenues of joint action and reflects the spirit of integration on which the coalition is founded in confronting terrorism.

At the end of the visit, Albusaidi expressed his appreciation for the coalition's leading role in coordinating collective counter-terrorism efforts, reiterating Oman’s commitment to continuing its support for these efforts in a way that promotes regional and international security and stability.

Saudi Arabia took the initiative to establish the Islamic Military Counter-Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC). HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, announced the establishment of IMCTC in December, 2015, in order to consolidate Muslim countries’ efforts in countering terrorism.

The Chiefs of Staff of Muslim countries affirmed, in their inaugural meeting, in March 2016, their determination to intensify their efforts to counter-terrorism through joint action, based on each country’s capabilities and willingness to participate in the initiatives or programs, within IMCTC framework, in accordance with each country’s policies and regulations and without comprising the sovereignty of IMCTC member countries. Meanwhile, they stressed the importance of activating the launch of IMCTC during the meeting of member countries’ Defense Ministers.
