The Saudi Ministry of Interior has intensified its security and service operations at the Prophet's Mosque during Ramadan 1446 AH (2025), prioritizing the safety and well-being of visitors and worshippers.
Integrated plans are being implemented across various security and service sectors to enhance security, manage crowds, and provide humanitarian support. The Public Security, through the Special Forces for Hajj and Umrah Security, organizes entry and exit and manages crowds within the mosque and its courtyards, utilizing advanced security plans to ensure smooth movement and prevent congestion.
The General Department of Traffic manages traffic flow in Madinah, especially on roads leading to the Prophet's Mosque, to ensure the safe and efficient arrival of worshippers.
The General Directorate of Civil Defense is reinforcing public safety measures through supervision teams, deploying personnel and equipment, and operating an advanced control center that monitors safety systems, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
Meanwhile, Makkah security patrols are diligently working to ensure the safety and smooth flow of Umrah (minor pilgrimage) performers and visitors during Ramadan.
Utilizing advanced technology and coordinating with other security agencies, they manage large crowds, assist the elderly, ensure children's well-being, and guide the lost.
Furthermore, the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque uses advanced technology that relies on reader sensors to monitor the number of Umrah performers in the main entrances to the Grand Mosque. The step seeks to raise operational efficiency by monitoring flows and crowds and improving their management effectively in partnership with relevant authorities.
Advanced smart cameras have been installed to sense the movement of entry, allowing immediate monitoring of the flow of pilgrims and identifying congestion points with greater accuracy.
This dual system of sensors and cameras contributes to improving the distribution of crowds inside the Grand Mosque, especially in the Mataf (Area of Circumambulation around the Holy Kabba) and Mas’a, which helps organize movement and enhance the safety of visitors, especially during peak times, in addition to facilitating the smooth flow of entry and exit by relying on accurate data.
The new system witnessed the highest number of pilgrims recorded in a single day, reaching nearly half a million pilgrims, reflecting the importance of adopting such systems to support effective planning and crowd management according to high-precision standards.
On Friday, Passports General Director Major General Dr. Saleh Al-Murabba inspected Umrah halls at Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz International Airport in Madinah to ensure the facilitation of entry procedures for Umrah performers and rapid and accurate service.
Al-Murabba affirmed enhanced passport services at the airport, highlighting the deployment of qualified personnel and advanced technology to ensure a seamless Umrah experience.
