Secretary-General of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) Major General Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi met last week with Chief of Staff of the Bahrain Defence Force Lieutenant General Theyab bin Saqr Al Nuaimi, in Manama.

During the meeting, the two officials reviewed the coalition’s latest achievements in the fight against terrorism, particularly its strategic initiatives and regional programs, including those implemented in the African Sahel region.

The discussions also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s flagship training program, serving more than 27 IMCTC member states by training and qualifying specialized personnel in counterterrorism, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The talks also covered the funding mechanisms through which member states support coalition initiatives and the operational methodologies applied in delivering strategic programs that serve the coalition’s collective mission.

Both parties underscored the importance of joint action and intensified coordination among member states in combating terrorism. They emphasized the need to enhance capabilities in key focus areas of the IMCTC, namely intellectual counter-extremism efforts, strategic media communication, counter-financing of terrorism, and military operations.

The meeting concluded with a mutual affirmation of the critical need to strengthen cooperation, unify regional and international efforts, and bolster coordination mechanisms in the fight against terrorism.

Saudi Arabia took the initiative to establish the Islamic Military Counter-Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC). HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister, announced the establishment of IMCTC in December, 2015, in order to consolidate Muslim countries’ efforts in countering terrorism.

The Chiefs of Staff of Muslim countries affirmed, in their inaugural meeting, in March 2016, their determination to intensify their efforts to counter-terrorism through joint action, based on each country’s capabilities and willingness to participate in the initiatives or programs, within IMCTC framework, in accordance with each country’s policies and regulations and without comprising the sovereignty of IMCTC member countries. Meanwhile, they stressed the importance of activating the launch of IMCTC during the meeting of member countries’ Defense Ministers.

IMCTC’s strategic vision is to be a leader at the international level in counterterrorism and a prime partner in international efforts for preserving international peace and security.

The mission of IMCTC is to coordinate, unify and support efficiently and effectively the efforts of its member countries in counterterrorism in the domains of ideology, communications, counterterrorist financing as well as in the military domain in partnership with friendly countries and international organizations.
