Chairman of the Jordanian Joint Chiefs of Staff, Major General Yousef Huneiti, was in the field earlier this week overseeing a tactical exercise, “Security Fortress”, by the 60th Prince El Hassan bin Talal Armored Brigade, one of the Central Military Zone units, at the designated training site.

The Army Chief listened to briefings by the Assistant for Operations and Training, the Commander of the Central Military Region, and the Director of Military Operations on operational and logistical preparations of the drill and its objectives.

It simulated operations in a host of scenarios, including a defensive battle followed by a counterattack in which various light and medium weapons were used. It also featured armored weapons and mortar fire, with support by Royal Jordanian Air Force aircraft, artillery, and blast engineering.

The exercise tested the combat readiness of the participating units and their ability to plan and execute tasks, ensuring appropriate decision-making under similar circumstances in conventional and unconventional operations.

It also tested the units' ability to keep pace with modern battlefield developments, in terms of information operations, countering cyber attacks, and employing drones, Petra news agency reported.

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, in the presence of Senior Officers of the Jordan Armed Forces, met with participants and conveyed to them the greetings and appreciation of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and HRH Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II. He commended the professionalism and morale of the troops.

In another development, Major General Al-Huneiti met Tuesday with General Michael Kurilla, Commander of U.S. Central Command USCENTCOM, to discuss ways to strengthen military cooperation and address regional security challenges.

The two sides reviewed efforts to enhance coordination on key defense matters, including joint training, intelligence sharing, and strategic planning. They also discussed recent developments across the region and the importance of advancing cooperation in areas that serve the operational and strategic interests of both Armed Forces.

Talks highlighted the strategic relationship between the two countries, with both sides emphasizing the need for unified international efforts to promote security and stability in the region.

Several senior officers from the Jordanian Armed Forces attended the meeting, along with the U.S. Defense Attaché in Amman.
