In line with the directives of the Air Defence Commander, the Planning and Organization Department, in cooperation with the University of Technology, launched Tuesday a ten-week specialized training program to develop technical staff operating air defense systems.

The program, held two days per week, focuses on enhancing capabilities in countering drones through progressive practical stages. Engineering cadres from the Command and Air Defense units with advanced academic backgrounds are participating to strengthen technical expertise and operational efficiency.

This initiative reflects the Air Defense Command’s commitment to modernizing capabilities, improving accuracy, and maintaining high combat readiness, the Iraqi Ministry of Defence said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the Ground Forces Command held a periodic training conference via teleconference, chaired by the Director of Training with participation from operations and division training Directors.

The meeting reviewed 2025 training assignments (priority four), upcoming exercises, and demonstrations from the Iraqi Army Training Bulletin. Emphasis was placed on nominating candidates for courses according to allocations, ensuring mandatory courses for officers and soldiers, and submitting requests for annual live-fire exercises in line with regulations.

Earlier, on behalf of the Ground Forces Commander, Lieutenant General Qasim Mohammed Saleh Al-Mohammedi, Lieutenant General Mohammed Jassim Jumaa attended the opening of a course titled The Role of Women in Peace and Security, organized by the training authority in coordination with the NATO mission from August 24–25, 2025.

The course included officers, civilian employees, and female personnel from the Ground Forces Command, operations, and divisions. It aimed to raise cultural and awareness levels within the military and promote peace, security, and the effective role of women in these areas.

Lastly, based on the principle of joint work between state institutions, and in recognition of the importance of relying on capacities and contributing to sustainable development by advancing joint academic and scientific levels, a Memorandum of scientific cooperation was signed between the Defense University for Military Studies, represented by its President, Aqeel Mustafa Mahdi, and the Foreign Service Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by Ambassador Dr. Basim Hattab Al-Tu’mah, Dean of the Foreign Service Institute, in the presence of the Deputy President of the University for Administrative Affairs, and the University’s Legal Advisor.

The Memorandum aims to open horizons of cooperation and scientific and knowledge exchange in areas of mutual interest according to academic and scientific principles.
