Iraq’s Defence Minister Visits National Intelligence Service

The Iraqi Minister of Defence, Mr. Thabet Muhammad Saeed Al-Abbasi, recently visited the Head of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service, Mr. Hamid Al-Shatari.

During the meeting, they discussed the overall security situation in the country and the high level of coordination between the security and military institutions in a way that contributes to enhancing stability and protecting citizens.

Both sides affirmed the importance of continuing information exchange and joint cooperation to confront security challenges and preserve the achieved gains, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense reported.

Furthermore, as part of the government program set by the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces and in continuation of the reconstruction campaign of military institution facilities, the Minister of Defense visited the Military College (the factory of heroes) in Rustamiyah.

He conducted a field tour to inspect the facilities of the College and follow up on the comprehensive reconstruction campaign.

The Minister then visited Al-Hussein Military Hospital, where he inspected projects to establish a cancer diagnosis building and a magnetic resonance imaging building at the hospital.

Lastly, in implementation of the directives of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence, Lieutenant General Engineer Shwan Mazhar Ali Al-Rawandozi, the General Directorate of Defense Doctrine and Requirements held the first conference of the committee for preparing the armament policy of the Ministry of Defense for the years (2026–2030).

Representatives from the weapons commands and specialized directorates, in addition to the advisors of the NATO mission in Iraq, participated in the conference, where the Committee, chaired by the Director of the Defence Doctrine and Planning Directorate, discussed the modern organizational foundations and standards for developing institutional performance and enhancing defensive and administrative capabilities in line with international standards and in response to future challenges.
