Naval Group and Akkodis in Norway, a leading digital engineering specialist with two Norwegian subsidiaries - Akkodis Edge Norway and Akkodis Norway R&D Services - have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to outline potential areas of cooperation within the framework of the FDI frigate program.

The agreement identifies testing and trials, as well as data center activities, as key domains for potential collaboration. As part of Norway’s long-term defense plan to introduce five new frigates starting in 2029, Naval Group is committed to continuing its integration of Norwegian industry into its global supply chain, extending beyond the maintenance of the FDI frigates.

Promising contacts between Akkodis and Naval Group originated during the Industry Days organized by Naval Group in Bergen, thanks to FSI, on October 2024. These Industry Days provided an opportunity for exchanges between Norwegian companies and Naval Group to identify future areas of cooperation such as production, maintenance, and through-life support for Norway’s future frigates, and initiate discussions about activities to be implemented in Norway. More than 50 Norwegian companies attended the event, and Naval Group teams are currently covering Norway to meet individually a lot of them and explore their integration in our global supply chain. The signature of a LoI with Akkodis is a concrete result of these exchanges.

Naval Group has already a long track record with Norwegian defense and maritime industry, but aims at widening and deepening its relationship with Norwegian industry to involve more companies in our global operations. For instance, French FREMM frigates operated by the French Navy embarks Norwegian equipment such as the CPP (control pitch propeller) and IBMS (integrated bridge management system) from Kongsberg. Also, the new French and Greek frigates FDI are already equipped with Norwegian propeller blades manufactured by family owned business Oshaug Metall in the frame of a long-time partnership.

Several partnerships are already been finalized with R&D institutes and academics, such as the Norwegian research organization NORCE who have signed with us a few days ago a Partnership Cooperation Agreement under the form of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore future collaboration in the fields of Research and Development (R&D). Our ambition extends beyond the delivery of frigates—it is about creating long-term value for Norwegian industry.

Naval Group develops innovative solutions to meet its customers’ requirements. The group is present throughout the entire life cycle of vessels. It designs, produces, equips, integrates, supports and upgrades submarines and surface ships, as well as their systems and equipment, right up to the final phases of deconstruction and dismantling.

Naval Group’s unique know-how in autonomous systems, underwater weapons and drones place it in pole position to become European leader in the sector. As a high-tech company, it draws on its outstanding expertise, unique design and production resources and ability to establish strategic partnerships, in particular within the framework of transfers of technology. It also provides shipyard and naval base services.

Ever mindful of the issues concerning corporate social responsibility (CSR), Naval Group is a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact. Located on five continents, the group generates revenue of 4.355 billion euros and has 16,722 employees (Full-Time Equivalent average annual workforce - figures as on 31 December 2024).
