Chairman of the Jordanian Joint Chiefs of Staff, Major General Yousef Huneiti, received in Amman on Tuesday, the Syrian Chief of the General Staff, Major General Ali Al-Naasan, and the accompanying delegation.
Huneiti and the delegation discussed ways to strengthen joint military cooperation between the two countries, stressing Jordan’s commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, to supporting Syria in a way that reinforces the two countries' historic ties and contributes to security and stability.
During the meeting, which was attended by a number of Senior Officers, Huneiti said the Jordan Armed Forces are ready to deploy their capabilities and resources across various fields in a manner that serves shared interests and strengthens the national security of both countries.
Al-Naasan expressed appreciation for Jordan's supportive positions toward Syria in confronting challenges, praising the depth of ties between the two countries and the importance of further developing them in a way that serves mutual interests.
The meeting also reviewed issues of common concern and stressed the need to continue coordination in addressing regional challenges, particularly in counterterrorism and drug smuggling, Petra news agency reported.
Meanwhile, the Head of Syria’s General Authority for Borders and Customs, Qutaiba Badawi, visited the Nasib border crossing with Jordan on Tuesday to review operations and readiness as the government moves to expand capacity at the key transit point.
The Authority said on its Telegram channel that Badawi reviewed procedures across various departments and assessed services provided to travelers and cargo, the Syrian News Agency SANA reported.
The visit comes amid rising passenger traffic and increased volumes of goods moving through the crossing, a key route for trade between Syria and regional markets.
Officials were briefed on final studies for expansion projects, including enlarging cargo yards, rehabilitating existing lanes and constructing new connecting roads with the Jordanian side, the Authority said.
The planned upgrades aim to reduce congestion and improve the flow of transit traffic across the crossing.
