Iraq’s Chief of Staff Attends Board of Directors Meeting at National Defense University for Military Studies

On Sunday, May 3, 2026, the Chief of Staff of the Iraqi Army, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, attended the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Defense University for Military Studies No. (13) for the year 2026. He was received by the President of the University and the Deans of the Colleges and Institutes.

During the meeting, the items on the agenda were reviewed and discussed, including the mechanism for opening courses in line with the requirements of military development and qualification, amending a number of university laws, as well as discussing plans to develop the infrastructure of the university headquarters and formations, in order to contribute to raising the scientific and training level.

Opinions, observations and proposals were also put forward and voted on by the members of the university council, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

The Chief of Staff of the Army stressed the importance of continuing to develop curricula and training programs, and creating an integrated educational environment that keeps pace with modern developments, in order to enhance the efficiency and preparation of leaders and officers in the various branches of the Armed Forces.

Meanwhile, under the patronage and presence of the Chief of Staff of the Army, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, the Defense University for Military Studies organized, on Sunday, May 3, 2026, the graduation ceremony of the Selective Formations Commanders Preparation Course No. 33 at the Command College.

General Yarallah was received by the President of the Defense University for Military Studies, the Dean of the College and the teaching staff, in the presence of the Assistant Chiefs of Staff of the Army, the Military Inspector General, the Commander of the Ground Forces and the Director of Military Intelligence.

The ceremony began with the playing of the Princes’ Salute, the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran, and the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah in remembrance of the souls of the martyrs of the army and Iraq. Afterwards, the Dean of the College delivered a speech on this occasion, welcoming the attendees and emphasizing that these courses enhance the combat capabilities of Iraqi army officers of all commands.

Following that, the top student delivered a speech on behalf of his fellow graduates, in which he pledged to work with sincerity, accuracy and efficiency, to contribute to building and developing the military institution.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Chief of Staff of the Army presented commemorative gifts to the top achievers, wishing them success and good fortune in their work among their brothers in the valiant Iraqi Army, in service to Iraq and its noble people.
