Kuwait has ratified a broad defense cooperation agreement with Pakistan, three years after it was signed in June 2023. The agreement was approved through decree-law no. 73 of 2026 and published in the official gazette Kuwait Al-Youm on Sunday.
The pact establishes a framework for cooperation between the two Armed Forces, focusing on military training, education, intelligence sharing, logistics, defense technology, research and exchanges of expertise, with the aim to strengthen institutional military ties between the two countries, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.
The agreement also includes cooperation in military manufacturing, electronic communications systems, scientific research, military media and cultural and sports activities. A joint military committee will oversee implementation, including organizing exercises, official visits and other joint programs. The ratification follows a series of recent high-level contacts between Kuwaiti and Pakistani military officials aimed at expanding defense coordination.
The agreement comes as Kuwait continues to strengthen security partnerships with international allies amid growing regional challenges. The agreement will remain in force for five years and will be automatically renewed unless either country chooses to withdraw. Both sides have also committed to protecting confidential military information and resolving any disputes through diplomatic channels.
Separately, Kuwait Army Chief of Staff Lt General Khaled Al-Shuraian discussed ways to enhance military cooperation with Commander of the GCC Unified Military Command Major General Abdulaziz Al-Balawi and Commander of the Peninsula Shield Force Maj Gen Mohammed Al-Ruwais.
The General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army said in a statement on Sunday that the talks took place during Al-Shuraian’s meeting with the two commanders, during which they reviewed issues of mutual interest and ways to strengthen military cooperation among GCC Armed Forces.
The discussions aimed to support joint Gulf military action and enhance integration among various military sectors.
