Kuwait’s Defense Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Sabah said Thursday that the launch of the Bayraktar TB2 drone reflects the wise political leadership’s commitment to the continuous development and modernization of defense systems to enhance combat readiness and ensure the highest levels of security and stability in the country.
In a statement released by the General Staff of the Army following the inauguration ceremony at Salem Al-Sabah Air Base, Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the strategic importance of integrating unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) into service, calling it a significant step forward in enhancing the Kuwaiti Army’s capabilities, particularly in surveillance, reconnaissance and intelligence gathering, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.
He was received upon arrival by Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Army Major General Sabah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Commander of the Air Force Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Hamdan, Commander of Salem Al-Sabah Air Base Brigadier General Mohammed Al-Rasheed and several other Air Force Officers.
The Defense Minister underscored the importance of investing in national talent and training technical and operational personnel to ensure the effective utilization of these advanced systems. “Our armed forces remain the nation’s shield and a vital line of defense against any threat,” he said.
He added that this step reflects the Ministry’s dedication to harnessing cutting-edge global technologies to enhance Kuwait’s defense system and secure the country’s borders and airspace. Sheikh Abdullah expressed pride in the national competencies who contributed to the project and played a role in bringing the drone into service, praising the spirit of collaboration and responsibility shown by the personnel of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces, especially those in the Air Force.
The ceremony began with a comprehensive technical briefing highlighting the drone’s operational capabilities and features, including its precision in reconnaissance and surveillance, as well as its effectiveness in air support and tactical operations, boosting the overall strength of the Army and Air Force in line with global military advancements.
The event concluded with a live demonstration showcasing the Bayraktar TB2’s technical performance and combat skills, followed by a tour during which the minister inspected the drone’s readiness and operating facilities and met several officers and technicians involved in the project.
