Jordanian Army Chief Visits Jordan Design, Development Bureau

Chairman of the Jordanian Joint Chiefs of Staff, Major General Yousef Ahmed Al-Hnaity, visited the Jordan Design and Development Bureau (JODDB) Monday.

He was received by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Eng. Mufreh Al-Tarawneh, the Director General of the JODDB, Eng. Ayman Al-Batran, along with senior officials and directors of JODDB and its affiliated companies.

During the visit, Major General Al-Hnaity, accompanied by several senior officers from the Jordan Armed Forces, was briefed on the JODDB’s role in providing pioneering and innovative solutions that harness advanced technologies in support of national security and stability. The briefing also highlighted JODDB’s efforts to boost competitiveness through the development of local industrial capabilities and skilled human capital.

Major General Al-Hnaity emphasized the importance of translating His Majesty King Abdullah II’s vision for the defense sector - particularly the localization and expansion of defense industries in Jordan - into practical action. He stressed the need to strengthen strategic partnerships with Jordanian universities and institutes to effectively engage youth and contribute to achieving this national vision.

Eng. Al-Batran stated that JODDB plays a critical role in equipping the Jordan Armed Forces with advanced military technologies and tailored defense solutions that meet operational and training needs. He noted that JODDB has established multiple partnerships with regional and international entities to further these goals.

Al-Batran also revealed that JODDB is currently deploying a counter-drone system in response to the growing use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in various operations. The system includes a radio frequency detection technology capable of identifying drone types and frequencies, in addition to a 360-degree radar system designed for open-area surveillance, and both vehicle-mounted and building-integrated systems.

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff was given a comprehensive overview of JODDB’s capabilities in designing and developing defense and technological equipment, including modern soldier gear. He also reviewed the JODDB’s R&D projects, including the electronic shooting range and drone detection technologies, expressing his admiration for the advanced level of innovation and development has achieved.

Established in 1999 under a Royal Vision, the Jordan Design and Development Bureau (JODDB) operates as an independent military-civilian institution under the umbrella of the Jordan Armed Forces. JODDB has since become a cornerstone of Jordan’s defense, security, and technology industries, and a regional leader in research, design, and development.

JODDB distinguishes itself in the Middle East North African (MENA) region through dedication to applying excellence in design and development, test and evaluation, technology incubation and providing a broad range of products, services and capabilities in various fields, including Land systems, Weapons, Ammunition, Electronics, Electro-optics, Troops gear, Disruptive future technology (AI, VR, Cyber Security, 3D Printing) projects, Ballistics Testing and Training, within a purpose-built free industrial zone, The Industrial Free Zone.
