Qatar’s Minister of Interior and Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani met with Minister of the Interior of Italy Matteo Piantedosi in Doha on Thursday.
The meeting reviewed aspects of cooperation between the two countries in security fields and ways to strengthen and develop them, in addition to discussing a number of issues of mutual interest.
The meeting also witnessed the signing of a cooperation agreement to secure the Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
During the meeting, the Interior Minister presented his Italian counterpart with a commemorative gift, a Smith & Wesson revolver manufactured in 1957, which is considered part of the policing heritage in Qatar.
In another development, the ‘Women’s Training and Qualification Strategies to Enhance Security Performance’ seminar, organised by Qatar’s Police Academy through its Center for Security Research and Studies, kicked off on Sunday.
The event is held in collaboration with Naif Arab University for Security Sciences and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), under the patronage of Minister of Interior, Commander of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), and Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Police Academy HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
The seminar’s opening session was attended by Minister of State for Internal Affairs HE Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Faisal bin Mohammed Al Thani, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Interior, Lekhwiya, and representatives from relevant organisations.
A group of experts and specialists from local, regional, and international institutions were also present.
The seminar, which runs until September 30, 2025, addresses several topics related to the development and qualification of female personnel in the security field. It aims to enhance their contribution to maintaining security and stability in line with regional and international security developments and challenges.
