The General Department of Organizations Protective Security and Emergency (OPSE) - Event’s Security Committee (ESC) participated in the inaugural edition of the two-day Major Events Safety & Security Summit (ME3S), organized by Reed Exhibitions, in collaboration with Major Events International (MEI).
ME3S is the first-of-its-kind ‘community experience’ summit that addresses safety and security challenges specific to major events and places of high crowd density.

ME3S brings together 200 carefully vetted attendees from the ranks of top regional buyers and end users, international experts and leading solutions providers across the events safety and security industry all under one roof, providing exclusive opportunities and empowering attendees to identify potential partners through tailored matchmaking.
Also in attendance are Brigadier Khalil Al Bishri, Deputy Director of the General Department of Organizations Protective Security and Emergency (OPSE), Brigadier General Rashid Al Falasi, Director of the Emergency Department, Colonel Mohammed bin Swidan, Director of Services and Supplies and various others.
The event has drawn the participation of several industry thought leaders and high valued speakers and experts from Yas Marina Circuit, Dubai Parks and Resorts, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, Dubai Sports Council, Hazza bin Zayed Stadium, Majid Al Futtaim, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, French Football Federation, Expo 2015, and Expo 2020, among others.
Reiterating the importance of continuous development in the security industry, Brigadier Al Ghaithi (photo) said: “H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has guided this city towards unprecedented cultural, scientific, economic, social and technological advancements. Under his leadership, Dubai has become a premier destination for major international events, bringing about the need for round-the-clock, proactive, hands-on, progressive and innovative security. We work continually in collaboration with security forces, venue representatives, major event organizers and solution providers to make this possible.”
Meline Eolmezian-Soulie, Group Exhibition Director of the Security & Safety Portfolio at Reed Exhibitions, said: “Reed Exhibitions, the world’s leading events organizer, holds expert, high-caliber, industry specific and market driven events. We believe in studying trends, adapting to market and social variables and tailoring our events to meet the demands of delegates, solution providers, buyers and participants.”
Over two days, ME3S hosted a variety of discussions, panels, lectures, roundtables and one-on-one meetings. Topics included high-media-centric events, crowd management, physical security, information management, security trends and technology, key planning essentials and inter-entity coordination. Security risks in the region, protective security and emergency, regulations and compliance, legal aspects, cyber risks and proactive security approaches were also on the agenda.
Next year’s edition of ME3S is expected to run on the sidelines of the 8th International Exhibition for National Security and Resilience (ISNR 2018) in Abu Dhabi, organized by the UAE Ministry of Interior and Reed Exhibitions.
