Chairman of the Jordanian Joint Chiefs of Staff, Major General Yousef Huneiti, received the United Kingdom’s Defence Senior Advisor to the Middle East and North Africa (DSAME), Vice Admiral Edward Ahlgren, and his delegation at the General Command Headquarters on Tuesday.
The meeting focused on regional and international developments of mutual interest and ways to enhance military cooperation to support readiness and strengthen the Jordan Armed Forces’ capabilities in training, armament, and coordination, which aligns with the strategic defense partnership between the two countries.
The delegation received briefings on key regional security challenges and strategies for addressing them, as well as discussions on defense coordination, training exchanges, and operational readiness.
The talks also highlighted the Jordan Armed Forces’ humanitarian efforts in Gaza and the West Bank, including aid and medical assistance, Petra news agency reported.
Huneiti underscored the deep historical ties between Jordan and the United Kingdom and emphasized the importance of building on past achievements to meet regional security needs.
Ahlgren praised the Jordan Armed Forces’ role in regional stability and affirmed his country’s commitment to expanding military cooperation, expertise exchange, and joint programs in training, qualification, and planning.
The visit concluded with the signing of the visitors’ book, attended by Senior Jordanian Officers and the British Defence Attaché in Amman.
On the sidelines, the 2025 Jordanian-British Staff Talks and preparatory meetings reviewed the implementation of agreements and programs to strengthen bilateral military coordination and planning.
For his part, Jordan’s Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Ayman Safadi also met on Tuesday with UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Secretary Yvette Cooper for talks on strengthening ties and addressing regional developments.
Safadi and Cooper reaffirmed the deep-rooted friendship between Jordan and the United Kingdom and underscored their shared commitment to expanding cooperation across various fields.
The discussions covered key regional issues, with both ministers stressing the need for intensified efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza, ensure the full implementation of its provisions and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the enclave.
Cooper commended Jordan’s role as a central hub for coordinating the entry of humanitarian aid through the Jordanian corridor into Gaza.
Safadi expressed appreciation for Britain’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the region, its support for the two-state solution and its recognition of the State of Palestine.
Turning to Syria, the two Ministers discussed developments and underscored the importance of cooperation to support Syria’s reconstruction and preserve its unity, stability and security.
