Iraq’s Chief of Staff Chairs 5th General Staff Council Conference of 2026

On Wednesday, March 11, 2026, the Chief of Staff of the Iraqi Army, Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah (photo), chaired the fifth General Staff Council Conference of the Army for the year 2026.

The Senior Secretary of the Army Chief of Staff, the Assistant Chiefs of Staff of the Army, the Security Advisor to the Ministry of Defense, the Military Inspector General, the Commanders of the weapons, the Heads of the bodies, and the Directors of the relevant directorates and branches attended the Conference.

The session witnessed the discussion and reading of the materials and paragraphs included in the agenda by the Secretary of the Conference, the most important of which were the topics related to the proposals of the competent directorates regarding the creation of a number of new staffs, positions and departments to meet the work requirements in the directorates and categories. These proposals were presented in detail and voted on by the members of the Council.

In addition, the Chief of Staff of the Army stressed the importance of keeping pace with the scientific and technical developments witnessed by advanced armies, in order to contribute to enhancing readiness and raising the combat capability of the various branches of the heroes of the Iraqi army during the next stage, the Iraqi Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

In another development, Major General Engineer Riyad Hamed Mahmoud, Director of the Technical Equipment Corps, conducted last week an inspection visit to the Technical Equipment Factory and the Technical Equipment Warehouse at Camp Taji, with the aim of reviewing the work situation and following up on the technical, administrative and logistical aspects.

The visit included a field tour of the factory and warehouse facilities, during which he was briefed on the implementation mechanisms, completion rates, and level of readiness, stressing the importance of adhering to the directives and instructions issued, and making more efforts to enhance performance efficiency and ensure the continuity of work according to the plans drawn up.

Major General Mahmoud also met with the ranks and affiliates, listening to their comments and needs, and directing that the necessary requirements be provided to support them and raise their morale, which will positively reflect on the level of achievement.

During the visit, he shared the breakfast table with the ranks, in a fraternal atmosphere that embodied the depth of communication between the leadership and its members, and his constant keenness to follow up on their conditions and to see to their needs, in appreciation of their sincere efforts in performing their duty.
