Egyptian Chief of Staff Concludes Official Visit to Rwanda

Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa, Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces, and his accompanying delegation returned to Egypt last week following the conclusion of an official visit to the Republic of Rwanda. During the visit, an official reception ceremony was held in his honor, which included a guard of honor and the playing of the national anthems of both countries by military bands.

Lieutenant General Khalifa held talks with General Mubarak Muganga, Chief of Staff of the Rwandan Defence Forces, during which they discussed means of enhancing military cooperation and addressed a number of issues of mutual interest.

The two Chiefs of Staff co-chaired the closing session of the third meeting of the Egyptian-Rwandan Military Cooperation Committee. They commended the efforts of the joint military committee members and the outcomes achieved across various military domains, which contribute to the exchange of expertise and bolster security and stability across the African continent.

At the conclusion of the session, both Chiefs of Staff signed the official minutes of the meeting, affirming the importance of opening new horizons for joint cooperation between the armed forces of both nations, the Egyptian Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

On the sidelines of the visit, Lieutenant General Khalifa also paid tribute at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where he laid a wreath in honor of the victims of the Rwandan genocide - an enduring gesture that reflects the deep historical ties between Egypt and Rwanda.

In another development, General Abdel Mageed Saqr, Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces and Minister of Defense and Military Production, met with H.E. Mr. Olushegun Adjadi Bakari, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Benin, and his accompanying delegation during their visit to Egypt last week.

The meeting addressed the latest developments on the regional and international scenes and their impact on security and stability across the African continent, particularly in light of current circumstances and challenges. Discussions also covered various aspects of cooperation between Egypt and Benin in the fields of defense and security.

The Commander-in-Chief expressed his appreciation for the longstanding relations between Egypt and Benin and his aspiration for further strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the coming period, especially in the military domain.

For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Benin praised Egypt’s active role in the region and commended the efforts of the Egyptian political leadership in supporting African nations in addressing various issues and crises to help achieve security and stability for the peoples of the continent.
