Algerian Military Leaders Receive Chief of Staff of Indian Land Forces

General Said Chanegriha, Minister Delegate to the Algerian Minister of National Defense, Chief of People’s National Army Staff, received Thursday, at the headquarters of the People’s National Army, General Dwivedi Upendra, Chief of Staff of Indian Land Forces (photo), during his working visit to Algeria, leading a large military delegation.

The meeting was attended by Lieutenant General, Commander of the Algerian Land Forces, Heads of Departments and Central Directors of People’s National Army General Staff and the Ministry of National Defense, as well as members of the Indian military delegation.

The two sides discussed areas of bilateral military cooperation and ways and means to strengthen security coordination on issues of common interest. They also discussed global security challenges and exchanged views on current issues, the Algerian Ministry of Defence said in a statement.

On this occasion, General Chanegriha said: “Algerian-Indian relations have gained new momentum, thanks to the last official visit to Algeria in October 2024 by the President of the Republic of India, Ms. Droupadi Murmu, during which the bilateral discussions between her and the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, contributed to defining new horizons and adopting future strategies, capable of promoting the level of bilateral cooperation and activating all common mechanisms on both sides, through the various bilateral commissions.”

General Chanegriha emphasized that the visit had positive repercussions, giving new impetus to military relations between the two countries, notably through the exchange of high-level official visits:

“This momentum has also been reflected in the exchange of official visits between the Commands of the two armies, such as the participation of General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Staff of the Indian Armed Forces, in the commemorative festivities marking the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the glorious national revolution, as well as the official visit I made to your friendly country in February of this year,” he added.

For his part, the General, Chief of Staff of the Indian Land Forces, expressed his satisfaction with this visit to Algeria, which provided him with a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas and perspectives with officials of the Land Forces Command, and to examine with the PNA High Command the various security issues arising on the regional and international stages, highlighting the existence of great opportunities for both parties to achieve beneficial and fruitful military cooperation for both countries.

At the end of this meeting, the two parties exchanged symbolic gifts.

Furthermore, the Indian military delegation benefited from a rich program of visits organized at various establishments and structures of the People’s National Army.

The first stop of this program was the headquarters of the Land Forces Command, where the delegation was welcomed by Lieutenant General Mostefa Smaali, Commander of the Algerian Land Forces. Discussions between the two parties focused on issues of mutual interest.

The Indian military delegation also met with the Head of the Military Education Bureau of the Employment and Preparation Department of the People’s National Army General Staff, as well as with the Central Inspector of Military Manufacturing. These meetings provided an opportunity to discuss various topics, particularly the military industry and training, thus contributing to strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The visit then took the Indian military delegation to the Cherchell Military Academy “Late President Houari Boumediene,” where the delegation received a presentation from the Academy’s Commander before touring the educational and training facilities of this prestigious training institution.

The delegation also visited the Command and Staff School, where they learned about the programs offered to People’s National Army officers by this prestigious school.

Alongside this program, cultural and tourist visits were organized for the Indian military delegation, allowing them to discover archaeological and cultural sites, testing to Algeria’s rich history and heritage. (Source & Photo © Algerian Ministry of National Defence)
