The K2 Kamikaze Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), developed by Türkiye’s Baykar within the framework of its cost-effective defense solutions strategy, has taken the field with tests demonstrating its autonomy, artificial intelligence, and formation capabilities.

Equipped with advanced AI and autonomy algorithms, the platform successfully completed flight tests conducted earlier this month with five K2 aircraft.

Intelligent Swarm Autonomy

Five K2 Kamikaze UAVs, taking off from the Keşan Flight Training and Test Center, successfully performed “right echelon,” “line,” and “V” formation flights during multi-sortie tests conducted over the Gulf of Saros over two days (13-14 March).

In the test scenarios, the K2 platforms used their artificial intelligence, sensors, and software to determine their position relative to other aircraft in the swarm, maintaining their place within the formation without error and successfully completing all assigned tasks. The K2 Kamikaze UAV is also capable of successfully executing various other configurations, including the “Turan” and “wall” formations.

AI-Assisted Swarm Synergy

The K2 Kamikaze UAV, operating with AI-assisted swarm synergy, introduces a new approach to the “expendable” category. The next step in the R&D process envisions bringing to life versions of the platform that can return to base after releasing their munitions on target, offering the possibility of reuse.

Cost-Effective Approach

The project aims to field high-impact platforms that can be mass-produced at low cost, minimizing the use of expensive munitions. This approach targets the cost-effective neutralization of the adversary’s critical targets.

Uninterrupted Mission Against Electronic Warfare

The K2 Kamikaze UAV’s navigation architecture is designed to operate in electronic warfare environments where global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) are absent or subject to heavy jamming. The platform is capable of estimating its position by visually scanning terrain features through its gimbal camera and the night-vision-capable camera system on the underside of the fuselage.

As a result, the K2 Kamikaze UAV can conduct uninterrupted navigation using its visual scanning capability and advance autonomously toward its target even in environments entirely devoid of GNSS signals.

Visual Lock-On and Precision Strike

The EO/IR gimbal camera system on board provides the platform with reconnaissance and surveillance capability while also enabling it to locate targets with pinpoint accuracy through its visual lock-on feature. The platform additionally features coordinate-based precision strike capability. Its line-of-sight (LOS) and beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) satellite datalink further maximizes operational flexibility.

The Largest Kamikaze UAV in its Class

The largest kamikaze platform in its class, the K2 Kamikaze UAV provides logistical flexibility in the field through its short-runway takeoff and landing capability. With a maximum takeoff weight of 800 kg, the platform sets itself apart from its counterparts with its ability to carry a 200 kg warhead delivering high destructive power. Its range exceeding 2,000 kilometers, speed of over 200 km/h, and endurance of more than 13 hours enable the platform to carry out long-range strategic missions.

Export Champion

Baykar, which has conducted all of its projects entirely with its own resources from the outset, continued to be the world's largest exporter in the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) segment in 2025.

Having maintained its leadership in the global UCAV market over the past three years, Baykar broke its own record with an export volume of $2.2 billion in 2025. With 90% of its revenues in recent years coming from exports, Baykar has become the driving force of Türkiye’s high-technology exports.

Baykar - The World’s Largest UAV Compnay

Having ranked among the top 10 exporters across all sectors in Türkiye in 2023 and 2024 and received the Export Champions Award, Baykar was the export leader in the defense and aerospace sector in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 according to data from the Defense Industry Agency (SSB) and the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM).

In 2023, Baykar alone accounted for one-third of the sector's total exports; in 2024, it once again single-handedly carried out one-quarter of the defense and aerospace sector’s total exports, positioning Türkiye as a leader in the global UCAV export market.

Baykar, the world’s largest unmanned aerial vehicle company, has signed export agreements with a total of 37 countries (36 for the Bayraktar TB2 UCAV and 16 so far for the Bayraktar AKINCI UCAV).
