On 23 January, Saudi Arabia’s new King Salman has appointed his son Mohammad bin Salman as Defense Minister and Head of the Royal Court.

Prince Mohammad was born in 1980. He is the son of King Salman and the full brother of Prince Turki bin Salman, Chairman of the Saudi Research and Marketing Group.

Prince Mohammad holds a bachelor degree in law from King Saud University.

Prince Mohammad was the Special Advisor of Prince Salman when the latter was the Governor of the Riyadh province. He then served as private advisor at the Ministry of Defense after the appointment of Prince Salman as Defense Minister in November 2011. He also acted as Special Advisor to him after his appointment as Crown Prince in June 2012.

Prince Mohammad was appointed Head of the Crown Prince Court and Special Adviser to the crown prince at the rank of Minister on 2 March 2013, replacing Saud bin Nayef, who was appointed Governor of the Eastern province. On 25 April 2014, Prince Mohammad was appointed State Minister.

Prince Mohammad is also the Chairman of Prince Salman Youth Centre and the Secretary General of the Riyadh Competitiveness Center.

In 2011 Prince Mohammad established a youth association, Prince Mohammed bin Salman Foundation. He is the Board Chairman of the foundation.
