The Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Hungary reviewed bilateral relations and exchanged views on a number of issues of mutual interest aimed at enhancing military cooperation to serve their common interests.

This came during a meeting between Dr. Mohammed Nasser Al Zaabi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence, and Kristof Szalay-Bobrovniczky, the Hungarian Minister of Defence, along with a number of senior officials.

The meeting was part of the official visit by Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence and his accompanying delegation to Hungary.

The meeting was attended by Malallah Mahmoud Al Balushi, Oman’s Ambassador to Hungary, Oman News Agency (ONA) reported.

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence and his accompanying delegation also met with a number of senior officials from Hungarian military industries companies.

During this meeting, the latest products and modern military equipment developed by these companies were highlighted. Future cooperation opportunities were also discussed.

In another development, the activities of the annual naval exercise ‘Sea Lion 2/2025’, conducted by the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) in the Sea of Oman with the participation of several crews from its fleet, concluded Thursday.

The exercise was supported by the Royal Army of Oman (RAO) and the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO).

The RNO vessels that participated in the exercise have returned to the Said bin Sultan Naval Base, marking the official conclusion of the annual naval exercise ‘Sea Lion 2/2025’.

This exercise is part of the RNO’s annual training plans to maintain the readiness levels of its fleet and personnel across various naval specializations, in line with the national duties assigned to it.

Meantime, the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) organized on Wednesday a symposium titled “Prospects of Research and Innovation in the Era of Artificial Intelligence: Towards a Sustainable Knowledge Economy”.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Ahmed bin Musallam Al Rowas, Assistant to the Head of the Medical City for Military and Security Services (for Administrative Affairs and Human Resources).

At the event, the RAFO was represented by the Sultan Qaboos Air Academy at Ghala Air Base.

The symposium covered four main topics. The first focused on research in the age of artificial intelligence. The second dealt with the “role of research in generating innovation”. The third elaborated on concepts and mechanisms of incubators and accelerators in academic institutions. The fourth discussed the extent to which research and innovation influence knowledge-based economy and achieves sustainable economic growth.

The symposium seeks to highlight modern research trends within the context of artificial intelligence, linking academic research to market needs and decision-making, in addition to studying common challenges and exploring opportunities in local and global research and innovation systems in a manner that fits with the Sultan Qaboos Air Academy’s strategic plan.
