Qatar Airways placed an order for 2 Bombardier Global 5000 jets for its executive jet unit and a new medivac plane in a deal worth about $90 million, but failed to clinch a deal on the C-series passenger jets.
Qatar Airways Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker said it would have been happy to announce an order for Bombardier's C-series passenger jets at the ongoing Farnborough Airshow but unspecified issues have gotten in the way of talks.
Al Baker said it was still considering the C-series and saw a need for planes of that type. The C-series is due to enter service from 2013 serving the market for single-aisle planes carrying 100-149 passengers. He declined to give further details.
