RUAG placed the focus on its COBRA mortar system at last week’s IDEX International Defence Exhibition and Conference in Abu Dhabi.

At the same time, RUAG is strengthening its presence in the Middle East with its own subsidiary in Abu Dhabi (UAE). All five of RUAG's divisions (Space, Aerostructures, Aviation, Ammotec and Defence) were present at IDEX.

The 120 mm COBRA mortar system took centre stage for RUAG at IDEX. One key feature is its simple and intuitive operation, which also reduces training costs. The system can be deployed quickly and modularly, providing tactical advantages. Other products presented by RUAG at IDEX include simulation systems for live or virtual training, an upgrade to the M109 self-propelled howitzer, the high-precision 9x19 mm HEXAGON ammunition, the Dornier DO-228, and slip rings that enable the transfer of electrical power or signals between two components rotating in opposite directions.

By maintaining a presence in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), RUAG is aiming to enter technological growth segments that can be utilized for both military and civilian purposes. At the Abu Dhabi site, RUAG Defence primarily wishes to concentrate on the distribution of simulation systems for live or virtual training for military and civilian domains. As early as last year, RUAG Defence was awarded several projects and orders in the Middle East in live simulation.

Urs Breitmeier, CEO of RUAG, is delighted at the company's stronger presence in the area: “Selected countries in the Middle East have great market potential. We envision opportunities for RUAG's world-leading products, especially in training solutions. But RUAG can also offer many years of international experience when it comes to maintenance, repair and overhaul.”

RUAG presented its products and innovations from its five divisions at IDEX (22-26 February 2015) over an area of 280 square metres - its largest stand to-date.
