The Jordan Armed Forces - Arab Army launched on Sunday the joint military exercise “Zulfiqar” at one of its training fields, with the participation of personnel from the King Abdullah II Royal Special Forces Command and special forces from Turkey, Azerbaijan and Pakistan.
The two-week exercise is being held as part of joint military cooperation and training programs aimed at enhancing operational readiness, developing combat capabilities and strengthening coordination among participating forces.
The exercise seeks to standardize operational procedures and improve the efficiency of joint planning and field execution in special operations through the exchange of expertise, development of command and control procedures, and enhancement of coordination among participating units, Petra news agency reported.
The drills include a range of activities and tactical scenarios simulating various operational conditions, including joint planning and execution of special operations, urban assault operations, hostage rescue missions, counterterrorism operations and tactical live-fire exercises using various types of light and medium weapons.
The exercise also features the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and modern military systems in line with the latest techniques and tactics adopted in special operations.
The first-of-its-kind exercise in Jordan is part of the Jordan Armed Forces’ training plan to maintain the highest levels of readiness and combat preparedness, develop operational capabilities, and enhance military cooperation with sisterly and friendly forces. It also aims to raise combat efficiency and promote the exchange of expertise in the field of special operations
In another development, a Jordan Armed Forces - Arab Army (JAF) delegation, headed by the Commander of King Abdullah II Air Base, visited the Congo/2 Helicopter Unit serving with the UN peacekeeping mission in Congo.
During the visit, the delegation was briefed by the unit’s Commander on its operational duties, technical and operational readiness, and the functioning of its various facilities.
The briefing also highlighted the unit’s humanitarian efforts in support of the United Nations’ mission to maintain security and stability, according to a JAF statement.
The delegation also met with the Force Commander of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), Lieutenant General Ulisses de Mesquita Gomes, where they discussed issues of mutual interest, developments in operational missions, and the role of the Jordanian unit in supporting the UN mission.
The delegation praised the “distinguished” performance of the unit’s personnel in carrying out their duties, stressing that the participation of the JAF in international peacekeeping operations reflects their “high level” of “competence and professionalism” and contributes to enhancing Jordan’s standing on the international stage.
