Chairman of the Jordanian Joint Chiefs of Staff, Major General Yousef Huneiti, discussed the latest developments on the regional and international arenas with Chief of Defence of the Belgian Armed Forces, Lt. General Frederik Vansina, and his accompanying delegation during their visit to Jordan.
In a meeting held at General Command of the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF), Huneiti and Vansina, in the presence of the Belgian Defense Attaché in Amman and a number of senior JAF Officers, also went over aspects of joint cooperation and coordination and ways to strengthen bilateral relations to serve the interests of the two friendly countries’ Armed Forces.
Huneiti and the visiting delegation were briefed on the JAF’s key upgrades and developments in various defense and security fields, its humanitarian efforts exerted in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, as well as the latest regional developments and current security challenges.
In turn, Vansina called for continuing coordination with the JAF in military fields, mainly joint training and exchange of expertise, Petra news agency reported.
Praising the “strong” bilateral relations, he expressed his aspiration to achieve further cooperation to serve common interests.
Meantime, the Belgian Chief of Defence and his accompanying delegation on Tuesday visited the Martyrs’ Memorial in Amman, where they were received by the Director of Military Media.
The visiting delegation was briefed on the history, symbolism, and values represented by the memorial, which was established in honor of the nation’s fallen heroes.
During the visit, General Vansina laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and toured the memorial’s facilities, viewing exhibits and weapons that narrate the story of Jordan’s modern state-building and the development of its armed forces over the years. The memorial stands as a landmark commemorating the sacrifices of those who gave their lives in defense of the homeland.
At the end of the visit, the guest wrote an entry in the memorial’s VIP visitors’ book.
Earlier this week, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces held meetings with the Ambassadors of Australia, Sweden and France to review security cooperation.
Major General Yousef Huneiti met the envoys separately at the General Command in Amman.
The talks, which were attended by several other officers from the JAF, focused on enhancing military and security cooperation and exchanging expertise.
The diplomats praised Jordan’s role, under King Abdullah II, in promoting peace and recognized the JAF’s humanitarian and medical contributions.
Huneiti and Swedish Ambassador Maria Sargren discussed security cooperation and mutual regional as well as international issues, the report said.
The Army Chief emphasized the strong Franco-Jordanian relations and military partnership in his talks with French Ambassador Franck Gellet, while his meeting with Australian Ambassador Bernard Lynch focused on enhancing cooperation in training and expertise exchange.
