Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Jordan, Lt. General Mahmoud Freihat, received a German military delegation for talks on the latest developments in the region and bilateral ties.

According to the Jordan News Agency Petra, the two sides discussed cooperation and coordination on various issues of interest to the armed forces of the two countries.

Meanwhile, His Majesty King Abdullah II on Tuesday emphasized that Jordan will always support Iraq in its efforts to safeguard its security, stability, territorial integrity and national cohesion.

In a telephone call with Iraqi Prime Minister, Haider Abadi, King Abdullah II voiced Jordan’s full support to Iraqi government's efforts in fighting terrorism and launching an all-encompassing political process in order to build a secure, unified and stable Iraq.

For his part, Jordan’s State Minister for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani urged Iraqis to avoid escalation and resolve the dispute through dialogue and a full commitment to the Iraqi constitution to safeguard the country’s unity and national cohesion.

Momani, who is also the Government Spokesman, said Jordan hopes that a dialogue begins in Iraq as soon as possible to spare the country from any new crises at a time when it continues to achieve major victories against terrorism.

The Minister called for refraining from taking any unilateral steps that threaten Iraq's unity and sovereignty or undermine the achievements of the political process in the country led by Prime Minister Haider Abadi to protect the interests of the nation, overcome challenges and achieve comprehensive national reconciliation.

He emphasized that Jordan will always stand by Iraq in its efforts to bring about security and stability and lay the foundations for a state based on the principle of citizenship and the Iraqi constitution.
