On December 4, the Brazilian Association of Defense and Security Industries (ABIMDE) concluded its participation in the Egypt Defense Expo (EDEX 2025), held at the Egypt International Exhibition Center in Cairo. The fair brought together exhibitors from various countries and attracted civil and military authorities to institutional meetings throughout its program.
Brazil’s participation began with the unveiling of the inaugural banner at Espaço Brasil, a symbolic act conducted by the Brazilian Ambassador to Egypt, Paulino Franco de Carvalho Neto, and the Secretary of Defense Products, Air Force Lieutenant General Heraldo Luiz Rodrigues. The ceremony marked the opening of the collective stand that brought together nine companies: Akaer; Avionics Services S.A.; BCA Têxtil; CBC - Companhia Brasileira de Cartuchos; CSA - Centro de Serviços Aeronáuticos; Mac Jee; M&K Assessoria, Exportadora e Importadora; Modirum | GESPI; and XMobots.
During the exhibition, Ambassador Paulino Neto, accompanied by Lieutenant Brigadier Heraldo, Colonel Luciano Fontana from SEPROD’s Trade Promotion Department, and Defense Attaché Colonel Anderson Eufrásio de Oliveira, visited the Brazilian companies' booths and attended meetings with foreign delegations.
Among the institutional visits recorded at Espaço Brasil, the presence of Brigadier General Engineer Florent-Mircea Roman, Deputy Head of the General Directorate of Armaments of Romania, who met with representatives from Akaer and the Secretariat of Defense Products, stood out.
The booth also welcomed the Minister of Defense Industry of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Vugar (Vüqar) Mustafayev, who held technical talks with Brazilian representatives and showed interest in deepening industrial exchange. Another notable presence at the Brazil Pavilion was a Vietnamese delegation.
EDEX was promoted under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and organized by the Egyptian Armament Authority. The exhibition brought together more than 35,000 visitors, around 400 exhibitors, and official delegations from dozens of countries, showcasing technologies, equipment, and defense systems across land, sea, and air segments.
Egypt, which has 1.2 million military personnel and continuously invests in modernizing its resources, has contributed to the consolidation of the fair as a meeting point for authorities, manufacturers, and industry representatives. The country has production lines distributed across several military complexes, an infrastructure that favors the holding of a large-scale event such as EDEX.
In assessing Brazil’s participation, ABIMDE Project Coordinator Miquéias Souza stated: “EDEX has achieved a level of international participation that deserves attention. Egypt structured the exhibition to attract authorities, armed forces, and companies from across continents, creating an environment conducive to technical dialogue and institutional rapprochement. For ABIMDE’s Sector Project, this edition increased the visibility of Brazilian companies on the African continent and opened up new prospects for cooperation.”
