Iraq’s Chief of Staff Receives Italian Counterpart and Military Attachés of Five Countries

The Iraqi Army Chief of Staff, General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, received on Tuesday, 23 December 2025, at his office, the Chief of Defense Staff of Italy, General Luciano Portolano, and his accompanying delegation.

The Army Chief of Staff welcomed his Italian counterpart, praising the strength of bilateral relations, particularly in the fields of training and advisory support, within the framework of Italy’s participation in the NATO Mission in Iraq.

The meeting also discussed prospects for cooperation and joint coordination, strengthening military partnership, and exchanging expertise between the two sides. For his part, the Italian Chief of Defense Staff expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the warm reception, affirming Italy’s continued provision of various forms of support to the Iraqi Army, especially in the areas of training and advisory assistance.

He further also commended the remarkable development of the Iraqi Security Forces’ combat capabilities and their effective efforts in pursuing and confronting the remnants of terrorist groups, Iraq’s Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

The Iraqi Army Chief of Staff, General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, also met on Tuesday evening, with the British Military Attaché to Iraq, Brigadier William Davie. During the meeting, bilateral relations between the two countries in the military field were discussed, along with ways to enhance cooperation and joint coordination, particularly in the areas of training, capacity building, and logistical support, in a manner that contributes to developing the capabilities of the Iraqi Army and raising its level of readiness.

The Army Chief of Staff emphasized the importance of continued cooperation with the British side, commending the role played by the United Kingdom in supporting the Iraqi military institution. In turn, the British attaché expressed his country’s appreciation for the warm reception and affirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to continuing its support for the Iraqi Army across various military fields .

On Monday, the Iraqi Army Chief of Staff also received the Military Attaché of the Republic of Korea to Iraq, Colonel Son Jang-soo, at the Army Chief of Staff headquarters.

During the meeting, prospects for joint military coordination and cooperation between the two countries were discussed, particularly in the fields of training, logistical support, and aviation and defense industries, in a manner that contributes to developing the capabilities of the Iraqi Armed Forces.

For his part, the South Korean Military Attaché expressed his thanks for the warm reception, affirming his country’s keenness to continue military cooperation with Iraq.

On Sunday, the Iraqi Army Chief of Staff received the U.S. Military Attaché to Iraq at the headquarters of the Army Chief of Staff. During the meeting, several topics of mutual interest were discussed, foremost among them ways to develop the command structures of the Air Force. Emphasis was also placed on continuing cooperation and coordination between the two sides in the security and military fields and in capacity building, particularly with regard to providing logistical support and backing efforts that contribute to enhancing the capabilities of the military institution and raising the combat readiness of the Iraqi Army at various levels.

For his part, the U.S. Military Attaché affirmed the importance of holding regular meetings with the Army Chief of Staff due to their role in enhancing prospects for joint cooperation, especially in the fields of equipment and armament, stressing the continued support and assistance to the Iraqi Security Forces when necessary.

Lastly, the Iraqi Army Chief of Staff also met on Sunday evening with the German Military Attaché to Iraq at the headquarters of the Army Chief of Staff.

During the meeting, ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two sides were discussed, particularly in the fields of military training, exchange of expertise, and the provision of logistical support, in a manner that contributes to developing the capabilities of the Iraqi Armed Forces and raising their level of readiness.

The Army Chief of Staff emphasized the importance of continuing cooperation with friendly countries, praising Germany’s role in supporting the Iraqi military institution. For his part, the German Military Attaché expressed his country’s keenness to strengthen military partnership and expand cooperation horizons in a way that serves mutual interests.
