A defense cooperation protocol between the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) and the Pakistani Armed Forces was signed on Tuesday at the General Command of JAF.
The agreement, titled the 28th Jordanian-Pakistani Defense Cooperation Protocol, was signed by the Director of Planning and Organization on behalf of JAF, and by the Director of the Military Cooperation Program on behalf of the Pakistani Armed Forces.
The protocol aims to strengthen cooperation, joint efforts, and the exchange of military expertise between the two brotherly nations. It also seeks to enhance bilateral relations in various fields and to exchange views on a number of mutual military issues.
The signing ceremony was attended by several officers from both the Jordanian and Pakistani Armed Forces, the Jordanian Armed Forces reported.
Both countries participate in various joint military exercises. On 29 December 2024, Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited Bahadur Ranges near Attock and witnessed Pak-Jordan joint exercise “Fajr-ul-Sharq 1”.
It was a two-week joint counter terrorism training event of both the armies to share mutual experiences, a press release of Inter services Public Relations (ISPR) stated.
Speaking on the occasion, the COAS congratulated the participants on successful conduct of the exercise and appreciated high standards of professional competence displayed by the troops.
He said conduct of such joint exercises help improving professional expertise in conducting Counter Terrorism operations.
On 24 September 2024, the Royal Jordanian Navy and Royal Boats conducted a joint naval exercise with their Pakistani counterparts.
The exercise included the participation of Jordan's combat boats, frogmen units, the 77th Marine Infantry Battalion, and the ship inspection team, alongside teams from the Pakistani Marines and Frogmen, according to Jordan’s national news agency Petra.
The exercise aimed to unify military concepts, exchange expertise, and enhance the operational capabilities of participants, preparing them for rapid responses in complex maritime environments.
These scenarios are designed to address current and future maritime security threats within the region.
Activities during the drill included ship boarding and inspection operations, protection of maritime navigation routes, combating piracy and smuggling, safeguarding critical infrastructure, as well as rescue and field medical evacuation operations.
