Alenia Aermacchi Delivers 5,000th Nacelle for Airbus A320
23.05.2012 Aviation Space
Alenia Aermacchi, a Finmeccanica company, has delivered to Goodrich the 5,000th nacelle set for the Airbus A320 family.
At its Venegono Superiore production site, Alenia Aermacchi is responsible for the manufacturing of the Inlet and Fan Cowl components of the nacelles and for the supply of the related spare parts for the CFM56–5B engines built by CFM International (a joint venture between the French Snecma–Safran and General Electric).
Alenia Aermacchi supplies the components to Goodrich Aerostructures’ sites in Toulouse and Hamburg, where they are mated with the engine and other nacelle components (“podding”) and ultimately delivered to Airbus.
On the wave of the great success of the Airbus A320 family, Alenia Aermacchi has increased the production rate of the CFM 56-5B programme, up to the current rate which yields about 500 nacelles per year, with an on time delivery score of 100% for the last several years.
This outstanding performance was obtained through a cohesive and relentless continuous improvement work performed with the customer Goodrich and through the application of cutting-edge Lean principles.
Alenia Aermacchi assures great flexibility and high quality levels which have allowed the achievement of today’s results, represented by the delivery of the 5,000th nacelle with the customer’s satisfaction
Venegono Superiore (Varese) is the historical site of Aermacchi, today Integrated Centre for the Training Systems and Legal Headquarters of the new Alenia Aermacchi, leading company in the design, production and support of military pilots’ training.
In over 20 years of activity Venegono Superiore’s production site has been dealing with the production of components for nacelles and acoustic panels, collaborating with the most important players in the aeronautical sector and bringing Alenia Aermacchi’s product onboard the most successful commercial aircraft: the super jumbo Airbus A380s and the long-range A330s, the already mentioned medium-range Airbus family A319, A320, A321, the regional aircraft ARJ-21, Embraer and Sukhoi SuperJet100, the exclusive business jets Dassault Falcon 7X, Falcon 900 and Falcon 2000.
Customer satisfaction and technical excellence are the key elements of Alenia Aermacchi’s strategy to continue successfully facing the future challenges of the civil market. The company is strongly engaged in many internal and international research projects for the development of new technologies intended to make the passengers transport ever safer, more comfortable and eco-friendly.
