Bahrain’s Interior Minister Meets US Director of National Intelligence

As part of his visit to the United States, His Excellency Interior Minister of Bahrain, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, received the Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard.

The Ambassador of Bahrain to the United States, Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, the Interior Ministry Undersecretary for Nationality, Passports, and Residence Affairs, Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullrahman Al Khalifa, and the accompanying delegation attended the meeting.

At the beginning of the meeting, the US official welcomed HE the Interior Minister and emphasised the importance of developing ties between the two countries and exploring new areas of cooperation. She hailed the strategic partnership between the two states, Bahrain’s Police Media Center said in a statement.

HE the Interior Minister emphasised Bahrain’s dedication to continuing with a civilised approach and reinforcing openness, coexistence, and peace values, in line with the royal vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He hailed the strong ties and strategic partnership between the two countries, as well as their joint efforts to reinforce regional stability.

He highlighted the importance of developing mechanisms for exchanging expertise, continuing to enhance joint cooperation, and confronting challenges in a manner that serves the interests of the two friendly countries.

During the meeting, several security topics and strategic issues were discussed, along with security challenges and the need to enhance security cooperation and coordination to address them effectively.

In the same context, HE Interior Minister met with the Director of the Atlantic Council’s Middle East Programmes Centre, William Wechsler, in which he welcomed the visit of HE the Interior Minister to the Centre, commending his interest in engaging with research and studies centres and decision-makers.

For his part, HE the Minister of Interior praised the Atlantic Council’s role in building a shared vision and advancing strategic thinking through the preparation of strategic studies and analyses, as well as anticipating future prospects in the areas of national security and foreign policy. He also noted the role of research centres in correcting misinformation through all media platforms.

He highlighted the importance of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed by the Interior Ministry and the US Department of Homeland Security in border security, which relies on the exchange of information to protect the security and integrity of both countries' territories. This is part of the development of border security enhancement programmes, which require the signing of international agreements that support the use of modern technologies in this field.

He also addressed several projects and initiatives implemented by the Interior Ministry, including alternative sentencing and advanced correctional programmes. He emphasised the importance of working to protect the future and expand partnerships to protect youth, especially since extremism and fanaticism remain a significant threat, which requires safeguarding them from these dangers.

During the meeting, several security issues were discussed, in addition to efforts aimed at achieving regional security. The meeting was also attended by the Bahrain Ambassador to the United States, the Interior Ministry Undersecretary for Nationality, Passport and Residence Affairs and Interior Ministry officials.
