A seminar titled “Emergency Management and Civil Protection Systems in Addressing Security and Environmental Risks amid Regional and Global Challenges” began Wednesday in the Finnish capital, Helsinki.
Organized by the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS) in cooperation with Verona Shelters, the three-day seminar brings together a group of experts from Arab countries and representatives of relevant international institutions.
In his remarks, NAUSS Vice Dean for External Relations Khalid bin Abdulaziz Alharfash said the specialized scientific event provides a platform for exchanging knowledge and expertise and reviewing the latest practices and technologies in prevention, preparedness, response and recovery.
He further highlighted the importance of enhancing national capabilities and improving coordination among relevant entities to help reduce risks and protect people, the environment and critical infrastructure, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
Alharfash noted that the university has implemented a series of training programs and scientific activities in cooperation with regional and international organizations, including more than 41 training courses and scientific workshops, 26 forums, conferences and seminars, as well as 16 scientific lectures and 148 research papers and articles published in its academic journals. These efforts reflect the university's continued contribution to capacity building and the development of specialized expertise.
Alharfash concluded by emphasizing that the rapidly evolving challenges facing the world require stronger joint efforts, greater exchange of expertise, and investment in knowledge and modern technologies. Such efforts, he said, enhance the readiness of civil protection and emergency management institutions and contribute to building systems better equipped to respond, recover and reduce risks before they occur.
The seminar aims to enhance scientific understanding of chemical, radiological, nuclear and biological risks and their security, health and environmental dimensions. It also examines current threats and assesses their potential impact on people, the environment and critical infrastructure.
In addition, the seminar discusses national, regional and international challenges in prevention, preparedness, response and crisis management, while showcasing the latest technologies and innovations in civil protection and emergency management to enhance comprehensive response capabilities and raise preparedness for future risks.
Over the course of fifty years since its establishment, Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS), the scientific body of the Arab Interior Ministers Council, has notched numerous milestones in higher education, scientific research, and training in security fields and related disciplines.
