Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa received on Tuesday Bahrain’s Minister of Interior, General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah al Khalifa, and the accompanying delegation at the People’s Palace in Damascus, where the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand security cooperation.
The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral ties, advancing security coordination, and broadening cooperation in ways that support security and stability, while also reinforcing the path of Arab openness and joint cooperation.
The meeting was attended by Interior Minister Anas Khattab, Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh, and a number of officials, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.
Earlier, Syrian Minister of Interior Anas Khattab also received the Minister of Interior of the Kingdom of Bahrain, General Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, along with his accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, both sides discussed a number of issues and files of mutual interest, exploring ways to enhance security cooperation and coordination between the two interior ministries.
The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties to serve the interests of both brotherly countries and peoples, while supporting the foundations of regional security and stability.
In a separate meeting, the Interior Minister met Wednesday with Raed al-Saleh, Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management of the Syrian Arab Republic. The meeting reviewed issues related to enhancing cooperation and coordination in crisis and emergency management, Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported.
During the meeting, the two Ministers signed a Memorandum of Understanding (photo) on cooperation in disaster risk reduction and civil protection through the exchange of expertise, training and technical support to strengthen Syria’s capabilities in responding to emergencies and disasters.
The agreement covers cooperation in training and capacity building for Syrian emergency management personnel, risk assessment and civil protection, as well as providing technical and advisory support to develop national emergency plans and disaster risk reduction strategies. It also includes strengthening civil and community protection systems and supporting post-disaster recovery efforts.
Emergency and Disaster Management Minister Raed al-Saleh said the memorandum will strengthen bilateral cooperation in emergency management, to enhance disaster risk reduction through expertise-sharing, capacity building and stronger civil protection systems, underscoring the importance of regional partnerships in improving disaster preparedness.
