Algerian Chief of Staff Concludes 6-Day Visit to Saudi Arabia & WDS 2024

As representative of the President of the Republic of Algeria, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defense, General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of People’s National Army, arrived Saturday 3rd February 2024 in Riyadh, for an official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Upon arrival, he was welcomed at King Khaled International Airport by Lieutenant General Mazyad Bin Sulaiman Al-Amro, Commander of the Royal Saudi Air Defense Forces.

This visit, carried out by the General at the head of a military delegation, is meant to attend the 2nd edition of the World Defense Exhibition (WDS), to visit structures belonging to the Saudi Armed Forces, and to meet Saudi military officials, with a view to studying ways of strengthening the bilateral cooperation and to examine issues of common interest, the Algerian Ministry of Defense reported.

On 4th February, General Chanegriha attended the opening ceremony of WDS. He then visited, with the delegation accompanying him, the various pavilions of the show, starting the Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) where he listened with great interest to the detailed explanations and presentations presented by the representatives of this company.

On 5th February, General Chanegriha was received by the Saudi Minister of Defense His Royal Highness Prince Khalid Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (photo).

Senior military officials from both parties attended the meeting which was devoted to assessing the state of bilateral military cooperation between Algeria and the Kingdom.

General renewed his thanks for the warm welcome given to him and his delegation and saluted the solid historical relationships between the two countries, recalling in particular the unconditional support of the Kingdom for the Glorious Revolution of National Liberation. The General also underlined the willingness of the People’s National Army to promote military cooperation between the two countries at higher levels and to extend it to other areas of common interest.

General Chanegriaha earlier visited the Command and Staff School of the Saudi Armed Forces where he was received by the School’s Commander Major General Mohammed bin Jadou’a Al-Ruwaili.

Subsequently, he went with the accompanying delegation to the World Defense Exhibition and visited certain stands where extensive explanations relating to the manufacture of weapons, various communication systems, satellites, drones, as well as mechanical systems and cybersecurity were provided.

The General also inquired about Russian companies specializing in the aerospace industry and anti-tank defense systems, before receiving in-depth explanations on the latest technologies in missile systems, radar stations and control autonomous. He closed his visit with the Chinese stand, where he inquired about the latest technical innovations relating to the manufacturing of drones and warships.

On 6th February, General Chanegriha visited the Saudi Air Force Operations Center  and received detailed explanations on its missions, in particular with regard to air operations. At the end of this visit, the two parties exchanged symbolic gifts, before the General signed the Center’s guestbook.

On 7th February, he visited SAMI’s Advanced Electronics Company (SAMI-AEC), where he received extensive explanations on its various products linked mainly to the areas of communication systems, energy, information and cyber security. Later, General Chanegriha visited the Middle East aircraft engine maintenance company.

On 8th February, the Algerian Chief of Staff met with his Saudi counterpart, General Fayad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili. Senior military officials of the Saudi Armed Forces, alongside members of the Algerian military delegation, took part in the meeting.
