Bahrain’s Defense and Security Joint Committee convened for a meeting at the Bahrain Defense Force (BDF) headquarters, Bahrain News Agency (BNA) reported.

Chaired by BDF Chief-of-Staff Lieutenant General Dhiyab bin Saqr Al-Nuaimi (photo), the meeting was also attended by Public Security Chief Major General Tariq bin Hassan Al-Hassan, National Guard Director of Staff Major General Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Saud Al-Khalifa, Royal Bahrain Navy Commander Rear Admiral Sheikh Khalifa bin Abdulla Al-Khalifa, BDF Assistant Chief-of-Staff Major General Ghanim Ibrahim Al-Fadhala and other senior officers and officials.

The panel discussed ways of strengthening joint cooperation and coordination between military and security bodies to maintain security and stability.

The BDF numbers about 13,000 personnel and consists of the Royal Bahraini Air Force, Royal Bahraini Army, Royal Bahraini Navy and the Bahrain Royal Medical Services. Apart from the BDF, the public security forces and the Coast Guard report to the Ministry of Interior.

In January 2008, the Crown Prince, Salman bin Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa was appointed as the Deputy Supreme Commander, while Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa was appointed as the Commander-in-Chief of the BDF.
