31.01.2011 Joint Ventures
Environics Oy, a world leader in chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) detection systems for government and security markets recently announced its joint venture with IUT Institut fuer Umwelttechnologien GmbH based in Berlin Germany.
IUT manufactures ultra sensitive chemical detection instruments used in both CBRN and industrial monitoring applications. The joint venture agreement was signed December 3, 2010 and began on January 1, 2011 (contingent on GmbH registration). The joint venture will operate from IUT offices in Berlin Germany under the Environics-IUT GmbH name and will acquire the assets of IUT s detector business.
Hannu Salmi, President and CEO of Environics OY, said “the agreement will bring new technology to Environics for the government and security business but also expand the company’s capabilities into several new industrial markets, including the petrochemical process monitoring, environmental gas emissions and semiconductor production sectors. Prof. Dr. Leonhardt, CEO of IUT GmbH, underlined the joint interest, since IUT strengthens its position by having access to the Environics global distribution network.
Founded in 1987 and based in Finland, Environics maintains a global presence through branch offices and laboratories in the Middle East and the USA as well as with distribution partners worldwide. From 1987 to present they have delivered thousands of portable security systems and hundreds of integrated solutions to over 40 countries. Environics products cover a wide range from hand-held instruments to public infrastructure protection and mobile laboratories.
IUT is a recognized leader in the development and manufacture of ion mobility spectrometers (IMS). Since 1992 IUT has developed IMS devices primarily for the detection of chemical warfare agents (CWA) and toxic gases. These devices are used in many stationary and mobile systems in government facilities but also in industrial applications worldwide.
